THOMANN ALPHONSE

Alphonse Thomann est la marque à l’éléphant, à ne pas confondre avec la marque Jean Thomann dont l’emblème était le singe ! Une constante pour les deux marques : la couleur orange.
Thomann sponsorisa de nombreux coureurs, telle en 1912, une équipe de cinq coureurs au départ du Tour et un maillot jaune sur le Tour 1925.
Ajoutons qu’Alphonse Thomann fut l’inventeur de la soudure autogène « a raccords invisibles », soudure de deux ou plusieurs pièces d’un même matériau sans utilisation d’un produit d’apport.
Alphonse Thomann fut en outre un commerçant malin qui après avoir vendu sa marque à Edmond Gentil, en recréa une à son nom, avant de se la voir interdire. Thomann, mais sans le prénom, annonçaient les nouvelles publicités !
Les affiches ci-dessous, très différentes, sont parmi les plus belles qu’il ait été dessiné.
Selon le Bottin du cycle de 1951, la Société centrale de construction mécanique basée à Vichy, regroupera les marques Riva Sport et les marques Alphonse Thomann.
Edmond Gentil achètera Thomann en 1911.
